Power Up with YOUth is a non-profit, non-partisan community initiative dedicated to inspiring and equipping young people with the knowledge, tools, and support to become active, informed citizens and shape a brighter, more sustainable future for their community.
This fosters a culture of civic awareness, responsibility, and accountability, ensuring that young people are equipped to shape the world around them.

Through our programs and outreach, we empower youth to engage in and lead participatory democracy and community contributions that benefit both present and future generations.

When Power up youth see something, they learn something, they say something, they do something, they make something and they keep what they made.
Youth with community power, resource power and sustained power that they use to make the difference in their lives, neighborhoods, and world. By fostering a culture of civic awareness, responsibility, and accountability, they shape a brighter future for everyone in their neighborhoods.

Our Last Campaign
Power uP With YOUth - uP The Turnout 2024
120 students made a difference for 1200 voters
The San Diego Park And Recreation Department’s “Encanto Walking Trail” is next to US Post Office for zip Code 92114.
The Post Office is named for an Encanto Neighborhood hero - The Great Judge Earl B. Gilliam and the trail needs to honor him.
But right now the trail is is neglected, overgrown, unsafe,
uneven, unhealthy, unsustainable, and largely unused.
That is about to change!
Power Up With YOUth aims to work for 4 years to “make the difference” - Transform the trial into a great space worthy of the great man, a great culture, a great legacy, and a great community!

We collaborated with youth, teachers, community leaders, elected officials and volunteers to hold an event for the community to celebrate the youth and their success.

Our mission is to engage, educate, and empower young people to become active participants in their community’s democratic process helping their friends and family vote with understanding and intention.
Campaign Vision: Shaping The Future
We envision a world where youth leadership and active participation is central to shaping and developing healthy and vibrant communities.
Campaign Activities
- Educational Workshops and seminars to equip youth to lead with purpose
- Civic Engagement opportunities to lead campaigns
- Leadership Development training, and mentorship and hands-on learning experiences designed to build confidence, teach leadership skills, and foster a deep sense of civic responsibility.
- Community Collaboration partnerships and activities that enhance community bonds and promote positive change
- Advocacy Training to ensure their voices are at the table and heard in community decision making processes.
In our first campaign, uP the Turnout, we partnered with San Diego Unified School District E and the BAPACSD Foundation to educate youth about the power and process of voting and to boost voter turnout.
