STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO VOTE BY MAIL

  • Before the event
a. Read your  voter information pamphlet and sample ballot.

b. Mark your selections on your sample ballot)
c . Carefully read the vote-by-mail Instructions on your vote by mail ballot. This includes checking for any special instructions related
to signatures, using the correct ink, and how
to fill in the ballot correctly.
d. Gather your materials
-    Your mail-in ballot and envelope
-    A black or blue pen
-  The Secretary of State Official Voter Information  
 Guide 
- Your   Sample ballot
-  your cell phone or laptop or tablet with internet access


At the event:
a. Mark Your Ballot. Fill out your ballot by marking your choices for candidates and propositions. Follow the instructions on how to mark your ballot. Double-check your votes before sealing the ballot envelope.

b. Sign the Envelope. Place your completed ballot inside the
return envelope. Before sealing the envelope, sign it where indicated. Your signature will be compared to the one on
file to confirm your identity.
c. Return Your Ballot . You can return your vote-by-mail ballot
in one of FOUR ways:



- Mail it back using the prepaid envelope. Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked on or before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day November 5th, and received at the county elections
 office by 7 days after Election Day.

- Drop it off at a designated drop box.
- Take it to a polling place or the county election office.

Authorize someone to mail it for you . Anyone may return
your ballot for you, as long as they do not get paid on a
per ballot basis. Be sure to fill out the authorization section found on the outside of your vote-by- mail ballot envelope.


Steps to Track Your Ballot

By following these steps, you can confidently vote by mail and stay informed every step of the way. Tracking your ballot ensures that your vote is counted and allows you to correct any issues if they arise.

  1. Sign Up for California’s  “Where’s My Ballot?” tracking service
at  
WheresMyBallot.sos.ca.gov.
Enter your information and choose how to receive automatic
notifications on the status of your vote-by-mail ballot
;• By text message,
• By email, or
• By voice call

2. Receive Alerts. You will get text messages, emails, or voice calls
updating you on the status of your ballot at different stages:
• Ballot received: You’ll get an alert when your ballot is received
by election officials.
• Ballot counted: The system will confirm when your ballot has
been counted.
• Problem with your ballot: If there are any issues you will be
notified so you can fix the problem.

3. Check Your Ballot Status Anytime. Even after you’ve voted,
you can log into the tracking portal anytime to see the status
of your ballot.

4. Post it: Share your selfie on social media.
5. Tag it:
Tag @PowerUpVoteChallenge so we can celebrate your vote!
6. Power it: Encourage friends and family to send their selfies to boost your school’s total!
7. Celebrate it.    The San Diego school with the highest turnout  will receive  a special prize!
